Leaked Prototype: Nokia “Lauta” RM-742 – Cancelled “Immediate” N9 Successor #NokiaVNN news!

My Nokia Blog have received a photo collection of an N9 successor, codenamed 'Lauta'. If it were released, it's reported to have been the immediate successor to the N9 and would have been launched soon after, but was subsequently scrapped due to Nokia's decision to support Windows Phone and drop MeeGo.
While in the photos the display and main body of the device are different colours, My Nokia Blog notes that retail units would have sported one complete theme. As well as a similar look and feel of the N9, the 'Lauta' sports identical internals, sharing the same specification sheet as its predecessor.

Nokia Lumia 920 Specs Leak, Include Wireless Charging #NokiaVNN news!

Following on from the leaked images and specifications for Nokia’s new Lumia 920 smartphone, and wireless charging technology, over the last few weeks.

New images have surfaced revealing a Nokia Lumia 920 wireless charging pad. As you can see from the photographs the charger is a small pad on which the Lumia 920 rest. It’s also thought the wireless charging pad will work with the Lumia 820.

What we know about the Nokis Lumia 920 so far from leaked images and specifications is that the smartphone will come equipped with an 8 megapixel camera, 32GB of built in storage, 1GB of RAM and also rumoured to be powered by a dual core 1.5GHz processor.

Nokia and Microsoft are expected to be unveiled the new Nokia Lumia 920 later this week. As more information surfaces we will keep you updated as always.

Nokia Lumia 900 Screen Hammer Test - WindowsPhone

Nokia has recently released its new Nokia Lumia 900 smartphone, the phone is constructed of a unibody polycarbonate shell that can withstand drops, scrapes and dings, where the face of the phone is protected with tough Corning Gorilla Glass. According to nokiaport.de, Nokia was recently granted a patent (D655,698) with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for a new smartphone design.

The look of the granted design is more or less the same as the leaked Windows Phone shown on the pulled promo video by Nokia back in August

Sources close to AT&T earlier this month unveiled that Nokia is preparing two new Windows Phones, Nokia “Prodigy” and Nokia “AC/DC”. Is this a new Windows Phone 8-based handset?

Nokia received $250 million for adopting Windows Phone - News

Nokia just posted its hugely anticipated Holiday quarter results and summed up its financials for 2011. Not surprisingly, the company posted a huge loss of nearly $1.4 billion (1.07 billion euro), but what’s even more interesting - Nokia is getting paid by Microsoft to make Windows Phones.

Nokia received a $250 million “platform support payment” from Microsoft, just because it is making Windows Phone devices. Nokia also notes that this is the first from a series of payments from Redmond, but it seems that Microsoft has to up that sum to make up for Nokia’s huge loss.

Previously, Nokia’s CEO and ex-Microsoftite Stephen Elop, said that the Finns are to get billions, not millions in support funds from Microsoft.

“Our broad strategic agreement with Microsoft includes platform support payments from Microsoft to us as well as software royalty payments from us to Microsoft” Nokia said. ”We have a competitive software royalty structure, which includes minimum software royalty commitments.”

This hints that additionally the Finns might be paying less for royalties than other Windows Phone makers, which could turn out to be a very irritating discovery for other WP handset makers. Nokia has shipped "well over 1 million" Windows Phone devices up to date, but it stayed mum on sales of its other high-end platform MeeGo.

Nokia Sabre photos - Leaked - NokiaVNN.com

Nokia World is just around the corner and the leaked photos of the expected WP7 phones just don’t stop to appear. After the leaked photos of the Nokia 800, it’s now Nokia Sabre.

From the photos, it’s visible that Nokia Sabre will feature physical keys, which might be great for the ones that keep hitting accidentally the capacitive keys, and apparently no front face camera.

Nokia 800 – First Press photos leaked #NokiaVNN

One week away from Nokia World, the first press photos of the Nokia 800 have been leaked.

Nokia 800 is the first WP7 phone set to be released and it’s one of the major attractions expected on the Nokia World that will take place in the next week. Rumors point that this phone should hit the market on Mid-November this year.

Nokia 800 Advert: Nokia Sun #windowsphone #SeaRay - NokiaVNN

Been stuck in lectures so wasn’t able to post your tips. Phew. What you’re looking at is apparently the first Nokia 800 Advert. The Nokia 800 might be the Nokia Sun which we’ve seen mentioned before.

This images appear on pocketnow – these guys seem to end up with a lot of Nokia promos before launch for some reason.

Other things to tick off now is Sabre and Ace. SeaRay is possibly the 800. This has the appearance of SeaRay + the 8MP camera. What’s interesting is that in the image below, there’s a bettery icon on the left. That’s supposed to be on the right. Being a Nokia ad though, they’re often prone to mistakes.

First Nokia Windows Phones by Christmas, + Nokia 800 for Airtel India?

I thought I’d roll these Windows Phone posts into one.

First up. NWP by Christmas


According to Danish site, mobilsiden.dk, Nokia’s first Windows Phone will be available before Christmas. I’m not sure if they’re quoting something new that Stephen Elop has said or possibly something reported time and time before. Yes, first batch is being announced this month, with at least two available this year in certain countries.


Secondly, NWP Nokia 800 airtel ad

The we were sent a scan of a possibly Nokia 800 pamphlet for Airtel, India. The source wants to remain anonymous. This was scanned very quickly apparently. Maybe no cameras allowed there or maybe it’s a photoshop, printed and scanned? I don’t know. I’m a little bit suspicious, particularly as the screenshot used isn’t even Mango. It’s a very old Windows 7 screen. It’s like they took some already available Nokia 800 shots, switched this screenshot, added some text and airtel logo, printed and scanned it in. If not, poor, very poor quality control in regards to the screenshot.


Now as for availability of this, I’m not sure. It is not connected to the “by Christmas” tag as that is for a select countries, of which, at least 6 are in Europe. US may have to wait for 2012 when Nokia Ace or whatever high end NWP appears.

20% of Windows Phone gets Mango update in 10 days. #NokiaVNN

WPCentral is saying that Android is paling in comparison to Windows Phone in terms of how long its taking for the install base to get the new update.


The figures indicate apparently 20% of WP getting Mango. This data is from a sample size of 83,527 – from users using an app called “I’m a WP7″.

Some things folks would want to point out is the sheer number of Androids out there compared to Windows Phone. Yes, that’s true.

I guess it’s the same thing when Apple CEO, Tim Cook compared how long it took Windows users to reach 10% of install base upgrading to Winows 7 as opposed to OSX Lion. Percentages should not be the only way to look at things.


However, on the positive side for Windows Phone, because of the guidelines (or restrictions) it does mean that unlike the multitude of Androids with different variants (UI, skins, hardware capabilities), the only thing in the way of an update is pretty much the network (and Samsung, because being Samsung your update is by default, delayed.)


Some things WP central want to point out:

• MS doing controlled update, meaning small percentage will get update notification.
• They expect 10 days before hitting 50% of users to Mango.
• Android 2.3 from DECEMBER 2010 has 38% of devices with that OS after 10 months.
• WPCentral say it’s not so much about the numbers but the difference for model update distribution. MS is much more direct to ensure that those 10 devices on 50 carriers were all on the same page at the same time.
• They understand scale matters, but point out that update model is a differentiating factor.

Now we have our own issues regarding updates on the Nokia side. Though Nokia does have tons more country variants, device variants, network variants to deal with. Another issue we should possibly consider is whether consumers actually choose to update. Update notification is useful. Not all users generally have a mobile internet plan or may not have WiFi or PC connection. I’m not sure what proportion those type of users make in terms of update processes.
We have our own big update again in the name of Belle. Some phones in certain countries still haven’t had Anna. Perhaps that might just be skipped entirely.

Weekend watch: Even more Windows Phone promo videos. #NokiaVNN

A follow up on the last batch of Windows Phone videos. @ChanseArrington tweeted about a new Windows Phone promo (new to me anyway) and it seems there were a whole bunch of other demo videos there too.

Firstly, these adverts are pretty good looking. Using the phone and the UI to show off, not glitsy artsy-fartsy nonsense crap. I guess you have to being it’s a MS video about WP only, but still. Overlay a narration and that would make a decent TV ad. Much better than a lot of what Nokia’s done lately.

This is Why Nokia went Windows Phone..Amazing Video

Normally I wouldn't post an eight minute video of anything...It is just too long for this type of format. However this time I am going to make an exception. The guys over at Nsquared have blown me away with this demo using a Windows Phone, a tablet, Microsoft Surface, Kinect and "big screen". Even if you only watch the first two minutes of it you will be amazed. I want every gadget in this video in my home right now.

Tango Update for Windows Phone Closer Than We Thought?

It seems that the Windows Phone update "Tango" is closer than we thought. As you can see from the screen shot above the software has turned up, running build 8301 in Niko Vrdoljak’s “I’m a WP7” app. This may not seem like big Nokia news to you, however the Tango is update that will allow Nokia to compete in the low end market of smartphones with Android.

Nokia 703 Windows Phone, Photo and Specs!

Well there it is, the rumored Nokia 703 Windows Phone from a couple days ago. I really like the design of it, at 3.7" it is a slightly smaller version of the Sea Ray/N9.


Here are the specs

1. 3.7″ LCD 452×800 display

1. 5Mp Camera

1. 720p HD video at 30FPS

1. 8Gb Storage

1. 512Mb RAM.

This is pretty much what I reported spec wise a two days ago, expect for the camera...The camera only being a 5Mp is a huge disappointment for me. I truly was expecting an 8Mp like on the C7, and 701. While there is nothing mentioned on the processor speed one would have to assume that it is the 1Ghz processor that is in the 701.


So there it is the first Nokia Windows Phone. (maybe) What do you all think?

Nokia 703 = Nokia 701 Running Windows Phone?

So the folks over at wpcentral have found this little nugget of information, that Nokia will be releasing the Nokia 703 as a Windows Phone.....


One would have to assume that the 703 is the just like the 701 but running the Window Phone OS instead of Symbian Belle. The 701 already hits almost all the requirements for running Windows Phone.

Perhaps the one diffrence will be screen size..I can't find it now, but I know I have seen that one of the requirements for a Windows Phone is a 3.7 inch screen and the 701's screen is only 3.5 inches. This also would explain the slight bump up in the number to 703.

Windows Phone "Tango" Key to Nokia's Success?

Microsoft has just recently confirmed what Windows Phone Tango is all about. To sum it up it is about making Windows Phone run on lower spec'd phones to make them for affordable.

Well ok they told us a little more than that...here is what they told us.

1. Tango is not a major update. 

2. Tango is one of the update belonging to Mango. 

3. Apollo would be the next major update. 

4. Tango is mainly for developing countries including China and India. These countries were neglected before and Microsoft would like to provide more Bing Services to them through Tango. 

5. OEM would be selling cheaper Tango devices in these developing countries.

So your are thinking.. "Great but this is a Nokia website so tell me Nokia stuff"


Here is the Nokia stuff, Nokia is rumored to be pulling back all Symbian presence in the North American Market next year. This means that Nokia would need to hit every end of the market with Windows Phone in the all important N. America Market. Windows Phone in it's current state would not allow Nokia to make lower end/entry level smart phones...period. (the minimum specs required by Microsoft are way too high)


However, now with Tango coming into play you can reach the low end market that Android is catching fire in, and compete with them for that section of market. As important as this is to the N. America market, it is MORE important in developing countries (ie China, India) for Nokia to keep their robust handset sales growing and not face another huge market loss like it saw in the N. American market in the past couple of years.


By Microsoft tweaking Mango to be less processor intensive it will allow it's handset makers to be competitive on every level in every market. If the consumer can get a Nokia Windows Phone for the same price as "feature phone" the Windows Phone would probably win. There are still people buying 8Gb iPhone 3G's right now just for that reason, it cost the same as a Pantech (fill in the blank) so why not?


If Nokia can figure out how to get a Windows Phone in everyone's price range, than I believe that they will start getting one in everyone's pocket.
